About

Mission:

The purpose of Wise Choice Ministries (WCM) is to provide education, training development and support services to low-income women and children.

Vision:

WCM is primarily concerned with addressing the root cause of the problem which is an improper world perspective.  Thus, Wise Choice Ministries is designed to teach and instill an alternative world perspective through a relationship with Jesus Christ.  At the same time, it seeks to provide education, training, development and a support mechanism for transition from hopelessness to fullfilment.

History:

In 1988, the leadership of Calvary Gospel Chapel recognized the need to address the plight of the homeless in its neighborhood from a church outreach perspective.  The neighborhood in which the church is located has patterned the decaying trend of many urban neighborhoods across the country.  There exists an increasing feeling of hopelessness and despair.  As a result, many people have turned to drugs, sex and crime for fulfillment and meaning.  This perspective reflects an unhealthy frame of reference.  The moral code that once permeated the neighborhood has been replaced by the code of the street.  There is little or no reinforcement of positive moral conduct in the environment.  We, therefore, see a neighborhood of families whose perspective of life is colored by a desire for immediate self-gratification.  Perhaps the persons most devastated by this are homeless women with children.  It is this segment of the community that the Wise Choice Ministries is designed to assist.   WCTH acts as a conduit for rehabilitating and providing a positive environment to those living in the neighborhood and surrounding communities. The goals and objectives are simple; self-sufficiency, individual responsibility, family, community, schools and church.
